Introduction from Author
I worked in the “TeachEnglishInJapan” industry for 1 year, specifically NOVA under NOVA Holdings. During this time, I became aware of the abhorrent behavior and practices that these industries use to neglect and control their workers.
I was left with burnout and mentally scarred as the company I worked for pushed me to work harder and harder with less and less results, my progress judged by a performance based system that was impossible to maintain.
Following a psychological breakdown, I was then effectively fired immediately and forced out of my company apartment to live on the streets. I was left homeless, without a job, a scarred CV and reference.
I’m now fighting back against this abhorrent industry by raising awareness about the cruel practices.
This subreddit is not an attack on Japan, it isn’t an attack on Japanese people or decent, well paid, genuine teaching positions in Japan.
There are many companies who claim that their work is 'professional' or that you are working in a 'professional environment', putting their workers under the same pressure, while paying them less than Uniqlo store clerks.
Together, we can come together as a community and spread the word, to let others know that the “TeachEnglishInJapan”, is a vile and malicious tool that exploits foreigners love and interest in Japan.
TeachEnglishInJapan was run as a Reddit for around 14 months, before the decision was made to migrate to a semi-independent website.
